Recently, former NFL offensive lineman Chad Wheeler was convicted of domestic violence charges stemming from an incident in January 2021. Wheeler was charged with first-degree domestic violence assault, unlawful imprisonment, and resisting arrest after an altercation with his girlfriend at their home in Seattle.
The incident began when Wheeler reportedly became angry and forced his girlfriend onto the bed. He then proceeded to strangle her until she lost consciousness. When the woman regained consciousness, she attempted to flee the home, but Wheeler blocked her path and prevented her from leaving.
When the police arrived, Wheeler initially refused to cooperate and had to be tased before he was taken into custody. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated for her injuries.
Wheeler was subsequently released by the Seattle Seahawks and placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt list. He was later sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to the charges.
