The Detroit Pistons have officially parted ways with head coach Dwane Casey following the conclusion of the 2019-2020 season. Casey had been with the Pistons since 2018 and had a successful two-year tenure with the team.
In his first season with the Pistons, Casey led the team to a 41-41 record and a playoff berth. The Pistons then improved to a 44-38 record in his second season, but were unable to make the playoffs. Despite this, Casey was able to develop some of the young talent on the Pistons roster, including All-Star forward Blake Griffin and point guard Reggie Jackson.
Casey’s departure from the Pistons is not surprising given the team’s struggles this season. The Pistons finished with a 20-46 record, which was the worst in the Eastern Conference. The team also failed to make any significant improvements in terms of wins and losses under Casey’s leadership.
The Pistons have yet to name a replacement for Casey, but there are already several names being floated around as potential candidates. These include former NBA head coaches Jeff Van Gundy and Mike D’Antoni, as well as current assistant coaches such as David Vanterpool and Juwan Howard.
It is clear that the Pistons are looking to make a change in order to improve their fortunes next season. With Casey now out of the picture, the team will have to find a new head coach who can lead them back to the playoffs. It remains to be seen who that coach will be, but it is sure to be an interesting offseason for the Pistons.
