Boxer Deontay Wilder was recently arrested in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for allegedly possessing a concealed firearm. The arrest occurred on the morning of Saturday, October 12th, 2019.
Wilder, who is the current WBC heavyweight champion, was taken into custody at a local gas station. He was released on bond later that day.
The police report states that Wilder was seen with a handgun tucked into his waistband. He was then detained and searched, and the weapon was found. Wilder was charged with carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.
The incident has caused quite a stir in the boxing world. Wilder is one of the most popular boxers in the world, and his arrest has been met with shock and disbelief.
Wilder’s attorney, Paul Patterson, released a statement saying that the boxer was “simply exercising his Second Amendment rights” and that he had no intention of using the weapon unlawfully. He also said that Wilder has a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon in the state of Alabama.
Wilder is scheduled to appear in court on November 7th to answer the charges. If convicted, he could face up to six months in jail and/or a fine of up to $500.
This is not the first time Wilder has been in trouble with the law. In 2014, he was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after an altercation at a nightclub. He was later acquitted of all charges.
It remains to be seen what will happen with Wilder’s current case. In the meantime, many boxing fans are hoping that the champion will be able to put this incident behind him and continue to focus on his career in the ring.
