The Seattle Seahawks welcomed back a familiar face to the team this week, as linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven returned to the practice field after two years of recovery from a serious knee injury. The injury had sidelined the former University of Washington standout since his rookie season in 2019, and the return was an emotional one for the 25-year-old.
“It was really surreal,” Burr-Kirven said of his return. “I’ve been waiting for this moment for so long, and it was really special to be back out there with my teammates.”
Burr-Kirven suffered a torn ACL in the final game of his rookie season, and the recovery process has been a long and arduous one. He spent the past two years rehabbing and working hard to get back to full strength, and he credits the support of his family and friends for helping him get through it.
“It’s been a long road,” he said. “I’m so thankful for all the people who have been there for me throughout this process, from my family to my friends to the Seahawks organization. They’ve all been so supportive, and it’s meant so much to me.”
Now that he’s back on the field, Burr-Kirven is looking forward to getting back to doing what he loves. He’s excited to contribute to the team and help them reach their goals this season.
“I’m just so grateful for the opportunity,” he said. “I’m ready to get out there and help this team win.”
