Backtalk: Times readers sound off on the Mariners clinching, Nick Rolovich and Couging it

Mariners

Drought busted!

We’re all 10 years old, deep inside. It just takes something special to unleash it (“Mariners clinch first postseason berth since 2001 on walk-off home run”). But I probably shouldn’t have started jumping up and down on the couch. Now I’m grounded.

Keep winning

We need that No. 1 wild-card spot. They need to keep the winning streak going!

On Rolovich’s vaccine choice

How bizarre that Nick Rolovich was demanding religious exemption due to his so-called Catholic faith — Pope Francis was vaccinated and encouraged all Catholics to do the same for the health of themselves and others (“Fired WSU coach Nick Rolovich explains why he refused COVID-19 vaccine”). Obviously Rolovich cared more about conspiracy theories than the health of his players and staff at WSU.

Unlike him, I happen to be a resident of planet Earth.

Also upset

While he was rooting around in his conscience, it’s too bad that this “leader” of young didn’t that let into his conscience one more thought. Unvaccinated people helped spread a virus that has killed over a million Americans. Don’t those people count, Nick?

David Harrison, Bainbridge

That word

Let’s stop hammering WSU for Couging it — it’s lazy, incorrect and boorish (Matt Calkins: “‘C — ’d it’: WSU’s letdown loss to Oregon brings a familiar feeling for Cougs”).

They were outmanned by five and four-star recruits. They deserve massive credit for leading most of the game and always fighting back. As a lifelong Husky I’ve always admired how tough they’ve played USC, UCLA and Oregon.

The Apple Cup could be very significant.
