The Arizona Diamondbacks made history on Monday night when they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 in Game Three of the National League Division Series. It was the first time in Major League Baseball history that a team hit four home runs in a single postseason game.
The Diamondbacks got off to a great start in the first inning when A.J. Pollock hit a solo home run off of Dodgers starter Rich Hill. In the third inning, David Peralta added another solo home run to give the Diamondbacks a 2-0 lead.
In the fifth inning, Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-run home run to extend the Diamondbacks’ lead to 4-0. The Dodgers would get on the board in the sixth inning when Chris Taylor hit a two-run home run off of Diamondbacks starter Zack Greinke.
Greinke was impressive on the mound, going six innings and allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out seven batters. The Diamondbacks bullpen then shut down the Dodgers over the final three innings to secure the victory.
The Diamondbacks now lead the best-of-five series 2-1 and will look to close out the series on Tuesday night in Los Angeles. If they can do so, they will advance to the National League Championship Series for the first time since 2001.
The Diamondbacks have been impressive throughout the postseason and are now just one win away from advancing to the NLCS. They have been led by their powerful offense and strong pitching, and will look to continue their success in Game Four.
