On Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim had a night to remember. Starting pitcher Dylan Bundy was brilliant, carrying a no-hitter into the 8th inning and ultimately leading the Angels to a 2-0 victory over the Texas Rangers.
The Angels’ offense was led by Shohei Ohtani, who hit his 42nd home run of the season in the bottom of the 5th inning. The two-run shot was all the Angels needed to secure the win, and Ohtani’s 42nd homer of the season is now tied for the most ever by a Japanese-born player in Major League Baseball history.
But it was Dylan Bundy who stole the show. He finished the night with 7 2/3 innings of no-hit ball, striking out seven batters and walking just one. It was the longest no-hitter thrown by an Angels pitcher since Jered Weaver threw a no-hitter in 2012.
The Angels’ defense also played a key role in the win, with center fielder Mike Trout making a spectacular diving catch in the top of the 8th inning to preserve Bundy’s no-hitter.
It was a night to remember for the Angels, and a reminder of just how dominant their pitching staff can be when they’re at their best. With Ohtani continuing to hit home runs at a historic pace and Bundy throwing no-hitters, the Angels are looking like a team that could make some noise in the playoffs this year.
