It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cale Yarborough, a three-time NASCAR Cup Champion in the 1970s. He was 84 years old.

Yarborough was born in South Carolina in 1939 and began his racing career at the age of 15. He quickly rose to fame in the NASCAR circuit, winning the Daytona 500 four times and becoming the first driver to win three consecutive Cup Championships from 1976-1978.

Yarborough was known for his aggressive driving style and his willingness to take risks on the track. He was also known for his rivalry with fellow NASCAR driver Richard Petty, which was dubbed “The Great American Race Rivalry” by the media.

Yarborough was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1993 and the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2012. He was also named one of NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers in 1998.
