The 2020 NFL season has been a difficult one for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. After leading the team to the playoffs in each of his first eight seasons, Wilson has seen his performance drop off significantly this year. His completion percentage, yards per attempt, and touchdown-to-interception ratio are all at career lows, and his passer rating is the lowest it has been since his rookie season.
Wilson’s struggles have been particularly noticeable in the second half of the season. After a strong start, he has thrown for just five touchdowns and eight interceptions in the last seven games. He has failed to throw for more than 200 yards in four of those games, and his passer rating has been below 70 in six of them.
The Seahawks’ offense has also struggled as a whole. They rank near the bottom of the league in total offense and points scored, and their running game has been inconsistent. The offensive line has also been an issue, as Wilson has been sacked a career-high 47 times this season.
Wilson’s struggles have been compounded by the fact that he is playing behind an inexperienced offensive line and without his top two wide receivers from last season. He has also had to adjust to a new offensive system under head coach Pete Carroll, who replaced Brian Schottenheimer this offseason.
Despite the struggles, Wilson remains one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league. He is still capable of making big plays with his arm and legs, and he is a leader on and off the field.
It remains to be seen if Wilson can turn things around in 2021. If he can, the Seahawks could be back in contention for a playoff spot. But for now, Wilson’s post-Seahawks struggles continue with a new low in 2020.
