It has been reported that Luton Town Football Club manager Graeme Jones has confirmed an alleged racist comment directed at striker Carlton Morris. The incident occurred during a match against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, February 22nd.
The alleged comment was made by a Wycombe Wanderers fan, who was subsequently arrested by police. The fan is now being investigated by Thames Valley Police for a racially aggravated public order offence.
Graeme Jones has since released a statement confirming the incident, saying: “We are aware of an alleged racist comment directed at one of our players during Saturday’s match against Wycombe Wanderers. We take any form of discrimination extremely seriously and will not tolerate it in any way. We are working with the relevant authorities to investigate the matter and will take appropriate action if necessary.”
The incident comes just weeks after Luton Town Football Club launched its ‘Kick It Out’ campaign, which aims to tackle racism and discrimination in football. The club has also recently signed up to the Football Association’s ‘No Room For Racism’ initiative, which seeks to create a more inclusive environment in football.
Racism and discrimination have no place in football, or in society as a whole. It is encouraging to see Luton Town Football Club taking a stand against racism and discrimination, and we hope that this incident will serve as a reminder to all clubs and fans that such behaviour will not be tolerated.
