The New York Yankees have a long and storied history, and the number 18 jersey is no exception. Aaron Boone, the Yankees’ manager, recently expressed his hope that the team’s new signing, Japanese pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, will keep the number 18 jersey.
The number 18 jersey has been worn by some of the most iconic players in the Yankees’ history, including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Joe DiMaggio. It has been retired since 2003, when it was taken out of circulation in honor of former Yankees’ manager Joe Torre.
Boone expressed his hope that Yamamoto will keep the number 18 jersey in an interview with the New York Post. He said, “It would be a great honor for him to wear that number, and I hope he does. It’s a special number for this organization and it would be great to see it back on the field.”
Yamamoto has yet to decide if he will wear the number 18 jersey or not. He has said that he is aware of its significance and he will make a decision after he has had time to think about it.
The Yankees have had a long history of success, and the number 18 jersey is a part of that. It would be great to see it back on the field, and it would be a great honor for Yamamoto to wear it. We’ll have to wait and see if Yamamoto decides to keep the number 18 jersey or not.
