South Carolina Women’s Basketball Team Defeats No. 11 Utah 78-69 in Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase

The South Carolina women’s basketball team had a huge victory on Sunday, November 24th, when they defeated No. 11 Utah 78-69 in the Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase. The Gamecocks put on an impressive performance, outscoring the Utes in every quarter and leading by as many as 16 points in the fourth quarter.

South Carolina was led by senior guard Tyasha Harris, who scored a game-high 23 points and added eight assists and five rebounds. Junior forward Mikiah Herbert Harrigan also had a big game with 16 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. The Gamecocks also got strong contributions from freshman guard Zia Cooke, who had 12 points and four assists, and junior forward LeLe Grissett, who had 10 points and seven rebounds.

The win was a big statement for South Carolina, who is currently ranked No. 14 in the AP Top 25 poll. It was also a big win for coach Dawn Staley, who is in her 11th season at the helm of the Gamecocks. Staley has led South Carolina to three consecutive Sweet 16 appearances and has won two SEC regular season titles in the past three seasons.

The win over Utah was a great way for the Gamecocks to start the season and gives them confidence heading into the rest of the year. South Carolina will look to keep up their winning ways when they take on No. 8 Maryland on December 1st in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. With a win over the Terrapins, the Gamecocks could make a big statement and prove that they are one of the top teams in the country.
