The Oregon Ducks had a convincing victory over the UTEP Miners on Saturday, winning 71-49. The Ducks were led by freshman guard Chris Duarte, who scored a career-high 25 points. But the Ducks also got a big boost from freshman guard Will Richardson, who scored 14 points and had five assists.
The Ducks were able to take control of the game early on, thanks to their defense. Oregon held UTEP to just 28.3% shooting from the field and forced 16 turnovers. The Ducks also outrebounded the Miners 37-27.
Oregon was able to get contributions from all over the floor. Senior guard Payton Pritchard had 11 points and five assists, while freshman forward Francis Okoro added nine points and six rebounds. Freshman guard Addison Patterson also chipped in with eight points and four rebounds.
But the Ducks’ biggest contributor was freshman guard Anthony Mathis, who scored 13 points and had four assists. Mathis was a spark off the bench for Oregon, providing energy and making plays on both ends of the floor.
The Ducks also got a big lift from freshman guard C.J. Couisnard, who scored seven points and had three assists. Couisnard provided a spark off the bench for Oregon, hitting two three-pointers in the second half to help the Ducks pull away from UTEP.
Oregon’s victory was a complete team effort, as the Ducks had seven players score at least seven points. The Ducks will look to continue their winning ways when they face off against the Arizona Wildcats on Wednesday.
