The Pittsburgh Panthers volleyball team made history on Saturday night when they defeated the Washington State Cougars in the NCAA Volleyball Tournament. The Panthers, who had never won a tournament game before, pulled off the upset in five sets, winning 3-2 (25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 23-25, 15-9).
The Panthers were led by their star player, senior outside hitter Kayla Lund. Lund had a match-high 24 kills and added 17 digs to help lead the Panthers to victory. She was supported by a strong defensive effort from libero Rachel Stedman, who had a team-high 20 digs.
The Cougars were led by their star player, senior setter Magda Jehlarova. Jehlarova had a match-high 47 assists and added 11 digs in the losing effort. She was supported by a strong offensive effort from outside hitter Taylor Mims, who had a team-high 18 kills.
