The University of Washington Huskies football team has been dealt a blow as safety Vince Nunley has announced his intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Nunley, a redshirt sophomore, was a key contributor to the Huskies defense in 2020, starting in all seven games and recording 27 tackles and two interceptions.
Nunley is a native of Los Angeles, California and was a three-star recruit coming out of high school. He was ranked as the No. 15 safety in the nation and the No. 28 overall prospect in the state of California. Nunley was also a member of the Pac-12 All-Freshman team in 2019.
The Huskies will now have to replace Nunley’s production in the secondary, as he was a key part of their defensive unit. He was a leader on the field and in the locker room, and his presence will be missed.
It is unclear at this time where Nunley will transfer to, but he will have plenty of suitors as he is one of the top safeties in the nation. He will have two years of eligibility remaining wherever he ends up.
The Huskies will now have to look for a replacement for Nunley in the secondary, as they look to build on their successful 2020 season. It will be interesting to see where Nunley ends up and how his departure affects the Huskies defense in 2021.
