The University of Washington men’s basketball team opened their season in style, defeating UC San Diego 83-56 in a dominant performance. The Huskies were led by senior guard Quade Green, who scored a game-high 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting. He also added four rebounds and three assists to his stat line.
The Huskies jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, taking a commanding 42-20 lead into halftime. The second half was more of the same, as Washington continued to dominate on both ends of the floor. They outscored the Tritons 41-36 in the second half to secure the victory.
The Huskies had four other players score in double figures, with Jamal Bey adding 16 points, Marcus Tsohonis contributing 12 points, and Erik Stevenson and Nate Pryor each chipping in 10 points. The team shot an impressive 55.6 percent from the field and held UC San Diego to just 37.5 percent shooting.
Washington also dominated the glass, outrebounding the Tritons 37-23. The Huskies also forced 15 turnovers while committing just nine of their own.
The win was a great start to the season for the Huskies, who look to build off this performance as they continue their season. They will take on the University of Portland on Saturday in their next game.
