The Apple Cup is one of the most anticipated rivalries in college football. Every year, fans of the University of Washington Huskies and the Washington State University Cougars come together to watch their teams battle it out for the coveted trophy. This year, the two teams will go head-to-head for the 116th time in the rivalry’s history. As we approach this year’s Apple Cup, we asked some of the most passionate Husky and Cougar fans to reflect on their most memorable experiences from past Apple Cups.
For many Husky and Cougar fans, the Apple Cup is a family tradition. For UW alumna, Sarah Johnson, her most memorable Apple Cup experience was when she attended the game with her father and brother back in 2011. “It was my first time attending an Apple Cup game and it was really special to be able to share that experience with my family,” she said. “The atmosphere was electric and it was so much fun to be a part of the rivalry.”
For WSU alumna, Rachel Smith, her most memorable Apple Cup experience was when she attended the game with her friends in 2018. “It was an incredible experience to be surrounded by thousands of other Cougar fans,” she said. “The energy was palpable and it was so exciting to watch our team fight for the win.”
The Apple Cup is a unique experience that brings together passionate Husky and Cougar fans from all over the state. For UW fan, Mark Anderson, his most memorable Apple Cup experience was when he attended the game with his wife in 2014. “It was really special to be able to share that experience with my wife,” he said. “We had a great time cheering on our team and it was a great way to spend time together.”
For WSU fan, John Miller, his most memorable Apple Cup experience was when he attended the game with his son in 2016. “It was really special to be able to share that experience with my son,” he said. “We had a great time cheering on our team and it was a great way to bond with my son.”
