The European Tour season came to a thrilling conclusion in Dubai as England’s Matt Wallace birdied the entire back 9 to take the lead in the DP World Tour Championship.
Wallace started the day four shots behind the leader, but quickly made up ground with birdies on the 10th, 11th and 12th holes. He then went on an incredible run of birdies, sinking putts on the 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th holes to take the lead.
The Englishman then held his nerve on the final hole to secure a one-shot victory and the title of European Tour Champion. It was a remarkable performance from Wallace who was playing in his first European Tour event since May.
The victory was made even more special for Wallace as it was his first win on the European Tour and it came in front of a home crowd in Dubai. The win also earned him a place in next year’s Masters Tournament at Augusta National.
Wallace’s victory capped off an incredible season for the European Tour which saw some of the world’s best golfers compete in some of the most prestigious tournaments. The tour also saw some of the biggest names in golf such as Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Jon Rahm battle it out for the top spot.
Wallace’s win in Dubai was a fitting end to an exciting season and it will no doubt be remembered for years to come. It was a remarkable performance from Wallace who showed that he is one of Europe’s best golfers and is capable of competing with the world’s best.
