The American League MVP voting was recently concluded and the results are in. Julio Rodriguez of the Seattle Mariners finished fourth in the voting, while Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels won the award unanimously.
Julio Rodriguez had an impressive season for the Mariners, hitting .326 with 14 home runs and 37 RBIs in just 54 games. He was also a finalist for the AL Rookie of the Year award. Despite his impressive performance, he was unable to secure enough votes to win the MVP award.
Shohei Ohtani, on the other hand, had an incredible season for the Angels. He hit .286 with 17 home runs and 44 RBIs in just 56 games. He also pitched to a 3.31 ERA in seven starts. His performance was so impressive that he was the only player to receive all 30 first-place votes from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.
This is the first time in MLB history that a player has won the MVP award unanimously. It is a testament to Ohtani’s incredible performance this season and his ability to excel both as a hitter and a pitcher. He is the first player since Babe Ruth in 1923 to have at least 10 home runs and 10 pitching wins in a single season.
The MVP award is a great honor for Ohtani and a well-deserved recognition of his accomplishments this season. While Julio Rodriguez may not have won the award, he still had an impressive season and should be proud of his fourth-place finish in the voting.
