The Oregon State Beavers had a statement game on Saturday, crushing the Stanford Cardinal 62-17. The Beavers were led by Damien Martinez, who had a career day with 146 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
Oregon State started the game strong, scoring on their first drive with a touchdown pass from quarterback Tristan Gebbia to wide receiver Kolby Taylor. Stanford responded with a field goal, but the Beavers quickly regained the lead with another touchdown pass from Gebbia to Taylor.
The Beavers never looked back from there, as Martinez took over the game. He scored three rushing touchdowns in the second quarter alone, and added another in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. His 146 rushing yards were a career high, and his four touchdowns tied a school record.
The Oregon State defense also had a great day, holding the Cardinal to just 17 points. The Beavers forced three turnovers, including two interceptions, and held Stanford to just 2-of-14 on third down conversions.
The win was a huge statement for the Beavers, who are now 4-1 on the season and have a legitimate chance to make some noise in the Pac-12 this year. With Martinez leading the way, Oregon State looks like a team to be reckoned with in 2020.
