The Washington State Women’s Basketball team opened their season with a win against Cal Poly on Saturday, November 9th. The Cougars were able to take the lead early in the game and never looked back, ultimately winning by a score of 79-60.
The Cougars were led by senior guard Chanelle Molina, who scored a game-high 21 points. She was supported by senior forward Borislava Hristova, who added 18 points and 8 rebounds. The team was also able to get contributions from their bench, with freshman guard Ula Motuga scoring 11 points and freshman forward Bella Murekatete adding 8 points.
The Cougars defense was also a major factor in the win, as they held Cal Poly to just 37% shooting from the field. They also forced 17 turnovers, which they were able to convert into 19 points.
The win was a great start to the season for the Cougars, and they will look to build on this success as they continue their season. With a talented roster and a strong defensive presence, the Cougars have the potential to make some noise in the Pac-12 this year.
It will be interesting to see how the Cougars fare as the season progresses, but one thing is for sure: they are off to a great start after their victory over Cal Poly.
