The No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes overcame a halftime deficit to defeat the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in a thrilling game on Saturday. The Buckeyes were trailing by two points at halftime, but they managed to pull away in the second half thanks to a 93-yard pick-six from cornerback Shaun Wade Hancock.
Hancock’s interception was the turning point in the game. He stepped in front of a Rutgers pass and raced 93 yards for the score, giving the Buckeyes a lead they would never relinquish. The Buckeyes’ defense held strong in the second half, allowing just three points and forcing two turnovers.
Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields was impressive, throwing for 318 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for a score, as the Buckeyes offense racked up 546 total yards. Fields spread the ball around, connecting with seven different receivers.
The Buckeyes defense was also impressive, holding Rutgers to just 263 total yards and forcing four turnovers. Linebacker Pete Werner had a team-high 10 tackles and two sacks, while safety Josh Proctor added an interception.
The win was Ohio State’s sixth straight and improved their record to 8-0 on the season. The Buckeyes are now in control of the Big Ten East Division and are well on their way to another conference championship.
Ohio State will now turn their attention to next week’s game against Maryland. The Buckeyes will look to continue their winning streak and keep their perfect record intact.
