Doc Rivers, the former head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers, recently discussed the possibility of coaching again in the future. Rivers, who was fired by the Clippers in September after seven seasons with the team, said he will wait until the end of the current NBA season to decide if he wants to get back into coaching.
Rivers spoke to ESPN’s Rachel Nichols on her show The Jump and said he is currently enjoying his time away from the game. He said he is still involved in the game by watching games and talking to friends, but he is not ready to make a decision yet.
“Do I miss it? We’ll see once the season is over,” Rivers said. “I’m not ready to make that decision yet. I’m going to wait until the season is over and then I’ll make that decision.”
Rivers also said he has been contacted by several teams about potential coaching opportunities, but he has not taken any of them seriously. He said he is not sure if he wants to coach again, but he is open to the idea.
“I’m not ruling out anything,” Rivers said. “I’m not ruling out anything. I’m just saying right now I’m not ready to make that decision.”
Rivers has been a head coach in the NBA for 22 seasons, most recently with the Clippers from 2013-2020. He also coached the Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics, and Los Angeles Clippers during his career. He has a career record of 943-681 and won an NBA championship with the Celtics in 2008.
Rivers’ future plans remain uncertain, but it appears he will wait until the end of the season before making a decision. It will be interesting to see if Rivers decides to return to coaching or if he will stay away from the game for good.
