The Chicago Sky have made a big move in the WNBA, announcing that Teresa Weatherspoon will be their next head coach. Weatherspoon has been an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Sparks for the past three years, and her agent has confirmed that she will be taking the job with the Sky.
Weatherspoon is a WNBA legend, having played in the league from 1997 to 2004. She was a five-time All-Star, two-time Defensive Player of the Year, and won a championship with the Houston Comets in 1999. She also played for the New York Liberty and the San Antonio Silver Stars.
Weatherspoon has been an assistant coach in the WNBA since 2011, first with the Tulsa Shock and then with the Sparks. She has been credited with helping to develop some of the league’s top players, including Candace Parker and Nneka Ogwumike.
The Chicago Sky are hoping that Weatherspoon’s experience as both a player and a coach will help them take the next step in their development. The Sky have made the playoffs in each of the past four seasons, but have yet to make it past the first round. With Weatherspoon at the helm, they are hoping to make a deeper run in the postseason.
Weatherspoon is no stranger to Chicago, having played college basketball at Louisiana Tech University, which is just a few hours away. She also served as an assistant coach at DePaul University from 2007 to 2011.
The Chicago Sky are excited to have Weatherspoon on board and are looking forward to seeing what she can do for their team. With her experience as both a player and a coach, she should be able to help the Sky reach new heights.
