Hall of Fame Chicago Bears Linebacker Dick Butkus Passes Away at Age 80

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of legendary Chicago Bears linebacker Dick Butkus. Butkus, who was 80 years old, passed away on Wednesday, April 8th, 2021.

Butkus was a standout player for the Bears from 1965 to 1973 and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979. He was also named to the NFL’s 75th Anniversary All-Time Team in 1994 and was selected to the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 1960s.

Butkus was known for his ferocious tackling and intimidating presence on the field. He was a two-time All-Pro selection and a five-time Pro Bowl selection. He was also a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and was named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 1970s.

Butkus was a beloved figure in the Chicago area and will be remembered for his contributions to the Bears and the NFL. He was a leader both on and off the field and will be sorely missed.

The Bears organization released a statement saying, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dick Butkus. Butkus is survived by his wife, Helen, and their three children: Matt, Jeff, and Kim. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
