The NHL is welcoming back a familiar face after an 8-month absence. Andre Burakovsky, the former Washington Capitals forward, is returning to the NHL to join the Seattle Kraken.
Burakovsky was drafted by the Capitals in the first round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and spent six seasons with the team before signing with the Colorado Avalanche in 2019. He had a successful season with the Avalanche, scoring 20 goals and recording 37 points in 66 games.
However, Burakovsky was not re-signed by Colorado and became an unrestricted free agent in October 2020. After a long wait, he has finally found a new home with the Seattle Kraken.
The Kraken are an expansion team that will begin play in the 2021-22 season. They are looking to build a competitive roster and Burakovsky is an important piece of that puzzle. He brings experience and skill to the team, as well as a winning mentality from his time with the Capitals.
Burakovsky is excited to be back in the NHL and to join the Kraken. He said, “I am really looking forward to playing for Seattle and being part of this new team. I am excited to be part of something special and to help the Kraken reach their goals.”
The Kraken are thrilled to have Burakovsky on board and are confident he will be an important part of their success. General Manager Ron Francis said, “Andre is a talented player who brings a lot of experience to our team. We are confident he will be an important part of our success in the future.”
