Recently, Washington State University student and football analyst Jake Dickert made a public apology to ESPN GameDay analyst Lee Corso. The apology was prompted by a tweet that Dickert posted in response to Corso’s comments about the Cougars’ football program during the October 5th broadcast of ESPN’s College GameDay.
In the tweet, Dickert wrote, “Lee Corso is a clown and doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He should stay in his lane and stick to analyzing games.” The tweet quickly went viral, prompting Dickert to delete it and issue an apology to Corso.
In his apology, Dickert said that he was “deeply sorry” for his comments and that he “did not mean to disrespect or insult” Corso. He also said that he “should have chosen [his] words more carefully” and that he “should have been more respectful of [Corso’s] opinions.”
Dickert’s apology was met with praise from many in the college football community, including Washington State University head coach Mike Leach. Leach tweeted his support for Dickert, saying, “I appreciate Jake Dickert for apologizing to Lee Corso. We all make mistakes and it takes courage to admit them.”
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of being respectful when expressing opinions online. While it is important to express one’s opinion, it is also important to do so in a respectful manner. Dickert’s apology is a good example of how to handle a situation when one has gone too far in expressing their opinion.
