On Tuesday, October 1st, history was made when Taylor Heise was selected first overall by the Minnesota Whitecaps in the inaugural Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) draft. Heise, a forward from Lakeville, Minnesota, is the first player ever to be selected in the PWHL draft.
Heise is a graduate of Lakeville North High School and has been playing hockey since she was five years old. She was a member of the U.S. National Under-18 team in 2018 and has also played for the Minnesota Whitecaps in the National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL).
Heise is excited to be the first player ever to be selected in the PWHL draft. She said, “It’s an amazing feeling to be the first player ever to be drafted in the PWHL. I’m so honored and humbled to be chosen by the Minnesota Whitecaps. I’m looking forward to a great season with them and helping to grow the league.”
The PWHL is a new professional women’s hockey league that was founded in 2019. The league is made up of six teams from across North America and will begin play in 2020. The league is dedicated to providing a professional platform for female hockey players and promoting the growth of the game.
