Chris Jones of Kansas City Chiefs Would Have Avoided Holdout if Given Another Chance

NFL Seattle

The Kansas City Chiefs have been in the news lately due to the holdout of their star defensive end, Chris Jones. Jones was seeking a long-term contract extension that would pay him more than the franchise tag he was given. Unfortunately, the Chiefs were unwilling to meet his demands and Jones ended up sitting out the entire season.

It’s a shame that it had to come to this, because Jones is an incredibly talented player who could have helped the Chiefs make a deep playoff run. He was a key part of the defense that led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory in 2019, and his absence was felt this season.

If the Chiefs had given Jones another chance to negotiate a long-term contract, it’s likely that he would have avoided the holdout. Jones is a team-first player who wants to be part of a winning organization, and he was willing to accept less money than he was asking for in order to stay with the Chiefs.

Unfortunately, the Chiefs chose not to take that chance and now they are paying the price. Jones is an elite defensive end who could have made a huge difference for the team this season, and his absence was felt in the playoffs.

It’s a shame that it had to come to this, but hopefully the Chiefs will learn from this experience and make sure they don’t make the same mistake again. Chris Jones is an incredible talent and deserves to be paid what he is worth. If the Chiefs had given him another chance to negotiate a long-term contract, it’s likely that they would have avoided the holdout and had a much better season.
