It’s a tough break for Rams fans as the team announced that wide receiver Cooper Kupp will not be playing in the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks due to a hamstring injury. Kupp, who is coming off a career-best season in 2019, was expected to be a key contributor for the Rams’ offense this year.
The injury occurred during practice on August 30th and was initially thought to be minor. However, after further evaluation, it was determined that Kupp would need to sit out the game against the Seahawks. The Rams have yet to announce how long Kupp will be out for, but it is expected to be at least a few weeks.
In the meantime, the Rams will look to other players to fill the void left by Kupp. Robert Woods and Josh Reynolds are expected to take on larger roles in the offense while rookie Van Jefferson could also see increased playing time.
Kupp’s absence is a big blow for the Rams as he was coming off a career-best season in 2019 where he had 94 receptions for 1,161 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was also a key part of the Rams’ run to the Super Bowl in 2018.
The Rams will certainly miss Kupp’s presence on the field and will hope that he can return to full health soon. In the meantime, they will have to make do with their other wide receivers and hope that they can step up in his absence.
