The Oakland Raiders had a strong showing in their preseason opener, defeating the San Francisco 49ers 34-7 on Saturday night. Led by quarterback Derek O’Connell, the Raiders offense was able to move the ball effectively throughout the game and put up points on the board.
O’Connell was impressive in his first start of the season, completing 15 of 22 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns. He also added a rushing touchdown, showing off his dual-threat ability. O’Connell spread the ball around to his receivers, connecting with seven different players throughout the game. His favorite target was tight end Darren Waller, who caught five passes for 67 yards and a touchdown.
The Raiders defense also had a strong showing, limiting the 49ers to just seven points. The Raiders were able to force two turnovers, including an interception by safety Karl Joseph. The Raiders also sacked 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo three times, with defensive end Arden Key leading the way with two sacks.
The Raiders will look to build on this performance as they prepare for their next preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals. With O’Connell leading the way, the Raiders have a chance to make some noise in the AFC West this season.
