It was an exciting day for golf fans as Fred Couples tied for third place at the Boeing Classic on Sunday. The 58-year-old former Masters champion shot a final round of 4-under-par 68 to finish at 11-under 205, tied with Scott Parel and two strokes behind winner Brandt Jobe.
Couples, who won the Boeing Classic in 2010, had a great start to the tournament with a 7-under 65 on Friday. He followed that up with a 4-under 68 on Saturday, giving him a two-stroke lead heading into the final round.
Unfortunately, Couples was unable to hold onto his lead as he stumbled on the back nine. He bogeyed the 10th and 11th holes, and then double-bogeyed the par-3 12th. He was able to recover with birdies on the 13th and 15th holes, but it wasn’t enough to catch the leaders.
Despite the disappointing finish, Couples still had a great week at the Boeing Classic. He was one of only two players to finish in the top 10 who were over the age of 50, showing that he still has what it takes to compete at a high level.
Couples’ performance at the Boeing Classic is a reminder that age is just a number when it comes to golf. He has been competing on the Champions Tour since 2007 and has won eight events since then, including three in 2018.
It’s clear that Fred Couples still has plenty of game left in him, and he will be looking to build on his performance at the Boeing Classic as he continues to compete on the Champions Tour.
