On Tuesday night, Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer made his Texas Rangers debut and earned the victory in a 5-3 win over the Chicago White Sox. The veteran right-hander went five innings, allowing three runs on five hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.
The Rangers got on the board first with a solo home run from Marcus Semien in the bottom of the second inning. The White Sox responded with two runs in the top of the third, but the Rangers answered right back with a two-run double from Joey Gallo in the bottom of the inning.
Scherzer settled in after the third inning, allowing just one hit and striking out five batters over his final two frames. The Rangers added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth when Isiah Kiner-Falefa scored on a wild pitch.
The White Sox threatened in the top of the ninth, loading the bases with two outs, but reliever Rafael Montero struck out Yoan Moncada to end the game.
The win was a big one for the Rangers, who are off to a slow start this season. Scherzer was solid in his debut, and Semien’s go-ahead home run was a big boost for the team. The Rangers will look to build on this win as they continue their season.
