The Arizona Diamondbacks put an end to the Seattle Mariners’ three-game winning streak with a dramatic ninth-inning comeback on Wednesday night. Trailing 4-2 entering the final frame, the Diamondbacks put together a rally that included a game-tying two-run double from Eduardo Escobar and a go-ahead RBI single from Ketel Marte. The Diamondbacks held on for the 5-4 victory, snapping the Mariners’ streak and improving their record to 10-7 on the season.
The Mariners had taken the lead in the top of the ninth, scoring two runs off Diamondbacks reliever Archie Bradley to take a 4-2 advantage. But the Diamondbacks responded in the bottom of the inning, as Escobar drove in two runs with a double to tie the game. Marte then followed with an RBI single to give the Diamondbacks the lead. Bradley then closed out the game in the top of the tenth, striking out two batters to secure the victory.
The win was a much-needed one for the Diamondbacks, who had lost three of their last four games coming into Wednesday’s contest. Escobar was the hero of the night, going 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Marte also had a strong performance, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.
The Diamondbacks will look to build on Wednesday’s win as they continue their series against the Mariners on Thursday night. With the victory, Arizona is now just one game behind Seattle in the National League West standings. It was an important win for the Diamondbacks, and one that could help propel them to a strong finish in the second half of the season.
