It is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of Rocky Wirtz, the owner of the Chicago Blackhawks. He passed away at the age of 70 on April 20th, 2021.
Rocky Wirtz was born in Chicago in 1951 and was the son of Arthur Wirtz, who owned the Blackhawks from 1966 to 2007. Rocky took over the team in 2007 and quickly made an impact on the organization. He was instrumental in turning around the fortunes of the team, leading them to three Stanley Cup championships in 2010, 2013, and 2015.
Rocky was a beloved figure in the Chicago sports community. He was known for his passion for the game of hockey and his commitment to the city of Chicago. He was also a generous philanthropist, donating to numerous charities throughout the city.
Rocky was a leader in the NHL, serving on several committees and boards throughout his tenure as owner of the Blackhawks. He was also a member of the NHL Board of Governors from 2007 to 2021.
