The Seattle Mariners lost a close game to the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night, 5-4. The game was marred by the ejection of Mariners infielder Ty France in the top of the ninth inning.
France was ejected after arguing a called third strike with home plate umpire Bill Welke. France was visibly upset and had to be restrained by his teammates and manager Scott Servais before leaving the field.
The ejection of France seemed to take away some of the momentum the Mariners had built up in the game. After trailing 4-2 entering the top of the ninth inning, the Mariners had rallied to tie the game at 4-4. But with France out of the game, the Mariners were unable to complete the comeback and lost in the bottom of the ninth.
The loss was a tough one for the Mariners, who have now lost three straight games. France’s ejection was a reminder of how quickly things can turn in a close game. The Mariners will look to get back on track as they continue their series with the Tigers on Thursday night.
