The Arizona Diamondbacks put on a thrilling show for their fans on Thursday night, as they defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 in 10 innings. The game-winning hit came from none other than infielder Ildemaro Vargas, who hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning.
The Diamondbacks got off to a strong start, scoring two runs in the first inning. The Pirates responded with a run in the fourth inning, and then tied the game up in the sixth inning. The score remained tied until the bottom of the 10th inning, when Vargas stepped up to the plate and delivered the game-winning hit.
Vargas was not the only Diamondback who had a big night. Outfielder Tim Carroll also had a great game, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Carroll’s biggest hit of the night came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when he hit a single to left field to give the Diamondbacks a chance to win in extra innings.
The Diamondbacks are now 18-14 on the season, and are currently in second place in the National League West. They will look to keep their winning streak alive when they take on the Pirates again tomorrow night. It should be another exciting game, and hopefully Vargas and Carroll can continue their hot hitting.
