The Oregon State Beavers have advanced to the Super Regionals after eliminating the Sam Houston Bearkats in the NCAA Regional. The Beavers were able to pull off the win thanks to a stellar performance from their pitching staff, with relievers Jake Jimenez and Grant Brown combining for seven scoreless innings of relief.
Oregon State starter Christian Chamberlain got off to a strong start, pitching four scoreless innings before running into trouble in the fifth. He allowed two runs in the inning, but was able to limit the damage and keep the Beavers within striking distance.
That’s when Jimenez and Brown took over. Jimenez entered in the fifth and pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four. Brown then came in for the eighth and ninth innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three. The two combined for seven scoreless innings, allowing the Beavers to keep the game close until they could take the lead in the bottom of the ninth.
The Beavers’ offense was also key to their victory, as they scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to take the lead. Adley Rutschman led the way with a two-run single, while Kyle Nobach added an RBI single to put the Beavers ahead for good.
The win was a total team effort, as Oregon State’s pitching staff was able to keep them in the game while their offense provided the late-inning heroics. Jimenez and Brown were especially impressive, combining for seven scoreless innings of relief to help the Beavers advance to the Super Regionals. It was a great performance from Oregon State, and they will look to continue their success as they move on to the next round.
