On Saturday, June 5th, Eastlake High School (EHS) made school history by winning the 4A state baseball championship. The Wolves defeated Sumner High School (SHS) in a thrilling 8-5 victory. This is the first state title in the school’s history and the team’s hard work and dedication has paid off.
The game was close throughout, with both teams exchanging leads multiple times. EHS was able to take the lead for good in the top of the seventh inning, scoring three runs. This gave them a 8-5 lead that SHS was unable to overcome.
The Wolves were led by their ace pitcher, Jake Johnson. Johnson pitched a complete game, allowing only five runs on eight hits while striking out nine batters. He was also able to come up with some timely hits, including a two-run double in the fourth inning that gave EHS a 4-3 lead.
The Wolves were also able to get some key contributions from their lineup. Catcher Ryan Smith had two hits and two RBIs, while shortstop Tyler Smith had three hits and an RBI. Center fielder Ryan Anderson also had a big game, going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
The Wolves’ win was a total team effort and the entire school is celebrating their victory. The team was welcomed home by hundreds of cheering fans and the school is planning a celebration to honor the team’s accomplishment.
Eastlake High School has made school history with their state championship win and the entire school is proud of their accomplishment. The team’s hard work and dedication has paid off and they are now 4A state champions. Congratulations to the Wolves!
