The Portland Timbers put on a show for the home crowd on Saturday night, as they defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 at Providence Park. It was a dominant performance from the Timbers, who were led by midfielder Evander, who had a goal and an assist in the match.
The Timbers got off to a great start, as Evander opened the scoring in the 10th minute. He received a pass from Diego Valeri and then fired a shot from outside the box that beat Whitecaps goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau. It was Evander’s first goal of the season and it gave the Timbers an early lead.
The Timbers continued to press forward and created several chances, but were unable to find the back of the net again until the second half. In the 58th minute, Valeri was able to double the Timbers’ lead with a powerful strike from outside the box. The goal was set up by a great pass from Evander, who had his second assist of the match.
The Whitecaps pulled one back in the 78th minute through Lucas Venuto, but it was too little too late as the Timbers held on for the victory. The Timbers sealed the win in stoppage time when Marvin Loria scored off of a rebound to make it 3-1.
The victory was a great way for the Timbers to start their season, and it was largely due to Evander’s performance. He was all over the field, creating chances and controlling the midfield. His goal and assist were both fantastic, and he was a major factor in the Timbers’ victory.
The Timbers will look to build on this victory as they face off against Real Salt Lake next weekend. With Evander leading the way, the Timbers will be confident that they can continue their winning ways.
