The Seattle Sounders defeated St. Louis FC 3-0 in a Major League Soccer (MLS) match on Saturday, August 8th. The Sounders dominated the match from start to finish, controlling the possession and creating numerous scoring chances.
The Sounders opened the scoring in the 13th minute when midfielder Cristian Roldan fired a shot from outside the box that beat St. Louis goalkeeper Tomas Gomez. The Sounders doubled their lead in the 32nd minute when forward Raul Ruidiaz scored on a rebound after Gomez had saved his initial shot. The Sounders sealed the victory in the 79th minute when midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro scored on a free kick from just outside the box.
The Sounders’ victory was their fourth consecutive win and extended their unbeaten streak to seven matches. The win also moved them into second place in the Western Conference standings, just two points behind first-place LAFC.
The Sounders were led by a strong performance from Roldan, who had a goal and an assist in the match. He was joined by Ruidiaz and Lodeiro, who both scored goals, as well as midfielder Joao Paulo, who had an assist.
For St. Louis FC, the loss was their fourth consecutive defeat and extended their winless streak to seven matches. Despite the loss, St. Louis FC goalkeeper Tomas Gomez had an impressive performance, making several key saves to keep the scoreline close.
The Seattle Sounders will look to continue their winning streak when they face off against Real Salt Lake on August 15th. St. Louis FC will look to get back in the win column when they face off against Sporting Kansas City on August 16th.
