One weekend remains in the regular season but only two seeds have been set for the Pac-12 tournament.
UCLA has clinched the No. 1 seed, along with its first regular season title in a decade, while Cal wrapped up the No. 12 seed last weekend.
Everything else is unsettled.
Here are the seed ranges still in play for the other 10 teams, according to the conference:
Arizona and USC: No. 2 through No. 4
Arizona State: No. 3 through No. 7
Oregon, Utah and WSU: No. 4 through No. 7
Colorado and Washington: No. 8 through No. 10
Stanford: No. 8 through No. 11
Oregon State: No. 10 or No. 11
We could end up with a rivalry game — perhaps more than one — in the opening round next Wednesday.
Also in play: USC vs. UCLA in one semifinal and Arizona vs. ASU in the other.
To the power ratings …
(NET rankings through Monday)
1. UCLA (25-4/16-2)
Last week: 1
Results: won at Utah 78-71 and Colorado 60-56
Next up: vs. Arizona State (Thursday)
NET ranking: 4
Comment: Jaime Jaquez Jr. in February: 19.6 points per game, 9.9 rebounds per game, 48.7 percent from the field, 38.7 percent from 3-point range … and 8-0.
2. Arizona (24-5/13-5)
Last week: 2
Results: lost to ASU 89-88
Next up: at USC (Thursday)
NET ranking: 11
Comment: Our estimates for the Wildcats this weekend: 45 percent chance they split the L.A. trip; 25 percent chance they sweep; and 30 percent chance they get swept.
3. USC (21-8/13-5)
Last week: 3
Results: won at Colorado 84-65 and Utah 62-49
Next up: vs. Arizona (Thursday)
NET ranking: 46
Comment: Is there a difference between the No. 2 and 3 seeds in the Pac-12 tournament? It depends on the identity of the No. 6 and 7 seeds. For the Trojans (or Wildcats), the goal is to avoid Oregon in the quarterfinals.
4. Arizona State (20-9/11-7)
Last week: 5
Results: won at Arizona 89-88
Next up: at UCLA (Thursday)
NET ranking: 61
Comment: ASU’s percentages in Tucson were excellent (53.7 from the field, 39.3 from behind the line), but two numbers aren’t getting enough attention: 23 assists, 11 turnovers.
5. Oregon (16-13/10-8)
Last week: 4
Results: won at Oregon State 69-67
Next up: vs. Cal (Thursday)
NET ranking: 53
Comment: If we’re being honest, this is what we say: There are too many former blue chip recruits on the roster for Oregon to have a 10-8 record in an extremely mediocre conference.
6. Washington State (15-15/10-9)
Last week: 7
Results: won at Stanford 67-63 and Cal 63-57
Next up: at Washington (Thursday)
NET ranking: 75
Comment: There is much to be said for beating the teams you’re supposed to beat, which the Cougars have done for three consecutive weeks. And they can they do it again on Thursday night.
7. Utah (17-13/10-9)
Last week: 6
Results: lost to UCLA 78-71 and USC 62-49
Next up: at Colorado (Saturday)
NET ranking: 70
Comment: The Utes have played nine games against the five teams positioned above them in the conference standings. They are 1-8, with the lone victory (over Arizona) coming in early December.
8. Colorado (15-15/7-12)
Last week: 8
Results: lost to USC 84-65 and UCLA 60-56
Next up: vs. Utah (Saturday)
NET ranking: 73
Comment: With a loss to Utah, the Buffaloes would finish with the worst conference record (by winning percentage) in Tad Boyle’s tenure, which spans CU’s existence in the Pac-12.
9. Stanford (12-17/6-12)
Last week: 10
Results: lost to WSU 67-63, beat Washington 81-69
Next up: at Oregon State (Thursday)
NET ranking: 107
Comment: We would not be surprised if the Cardinal swept the Oregon trip and then won two games in the Pac-12 tournament. Nor would we be surprised if Stanford doesn’t win again.
10. Washington (16-14/8-11)
Last week: 9
Results: won at Cal 65-56, lost at Stanford 81-69
Next up: vs. Washington State (Thursday)
NET ranking: 115
Comment: Washington’s basketball offense is as bad as Washington’s football offense was good. And the football offense was really good.
11. Oregon State (10-19/4-14)
Last week: 11
Results: lost to Oregon 69-67
Next up: vs. Stanford (Thursday)
NET ranking: 214
Comment: Absolutely brutal loss for Beaver Nation, but they’ll always have 38-34.
12. Cal (3-26/2-16)
Last week:
Results: lost to Washington 65-56 and WSU 63-57
Next up: at Oregon (Thursday)
NET ranking: 304
Comment: On the bright side, it’s mathematically impossible for the Bears to lose 30 games. Two this weekend, one in the Pac-12 tournament, and they’re done.
