The Seattle Rainiers kicked off their 2021 season in style with an 11-3 victory over the Las Vegas Aviators on Tuesday night. The Rainiers got off to a hot start, scoring eight runs in the fourth inning to break open a close game.
The Rainiers had a balanced attack at the plate, with seven different players recording hits. Leadoff hitter Taylor Trammell was the star of the night, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs. He was followed by designated hitter Joe Rizzo, who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
The Rainiers’ pitching staff also had a strong outing, led by starter Justus Sheffield. Sheffield pitched five innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out four. Relievers Matt Magill and Yohan Ramirez combined to pitch four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out five.
The Rainiers’ defense was also solid, committing no errors in the game. They were able to turn two double plays in the game, helping to limit the damage from the Aviators’ offense.
The Rainiers will look to continue their strong start to the season as they face the Aviators again on Wednesday night. With a win, they would move to 2-0 on the season and further cement their status as one of the top teams in the Pacific Coast League.
