The University of Washington women’s basketball team opened their season with a bang, recording a blowout victory over the Pacific Tigers. The final score was an impressive 87-50, giving the Huskies a 37-point victory.
The Huskies were led by senior guard Amber Melgoza, who scored a game-high 24 points. She was joined by junior guard Quay Miller, who added 17 points, and freshman guard Missy Peterson, who chipped in 14 points. The trio combined for 55 of the Huskies’ 87 points.
The Huskies dominated the game from start to finish, leading by as many as 40 points at one point in the second half. They outscored the Tigers in every quarter and held them to just 25% shooting from the field. The Huskies also outrebounded the Tigers 48-30 and had a huge advantage in assists, dishing out 22 compared to just four for Pacific.
The win marks the third consecutive blowout victory for the Huskies over the Tigers, dating back to last season. It’s an impressive start for the Huskies, who are looking to build on their success from last season when they reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
The Huskies will look to continue their winning ways when they face off against Oregon State on Sunday. With the way they played against Pacific, it looks like the Huskies are ready to make some noise this season.
