The Portland State Vikings had a big day on Saturday as they defeated the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 45-21. Leading the way for the Vikings was quarterback Dante Chachere, who had an impressive performance. Chachere threw for five touchdowns and ran for another score to help the Vikings secure the victory.
The Vikings got off to a fast start, scoring on their first two possessions to take a 14-0 lead. Chachere threw a pair of touchdown passes in the first quarter, one to wide receiver Justin Monahan and another to tight end Jacob Sperry. Chachere then added a third touchdown pass in the second quarter, this time to wide receiver Jordan Villamin.
The Lumberjacks got on the board in the second quarter with a touchdown pass from quarterback Case Cookus to wide receiver Emmanuel Butler, but the Vikings responded with another touchdown pass from Chachere to Villamin. The Vikings took a 28-7 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Chachere continued to impress. He threw his fifth touchdown pass of the game in the third quarter, this time to wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins. He then added a rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.
Chachere finished the game with 285 passing yards and five touchdowns. He also added 41 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground. His performance was instrumental in helping the Vikings secure the win.
The win was a big one for the Vikings, as they improved their record to 4-2 on the season. They will look to keep their momentum going as they take on Eastern Washington next week. With Chachere playing at such a high level, the Vikings should be confident that they can come away with another victory.
