It is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of Jan Jongbloed, former Netherlands goalkeeper and two-time World Cup finalist, at the age of 82.
Jongbloed was a goalkeeper for the Netherlands national team from 1966 to 1974, and was part of the team that reached the 1974 World Cup final. He was also part of the Dutch team that reached the 1978 World Cup final, but did not play in the match due to an injury.
Jongbloed was known for his acrobatic saves and his ability to read the game. He was considered to be one of the best goalkeepers of his time, and was voted the Dutch Footballer of the Year in 1971.
Jongbloed played for several clubs during his career, including Ajax Amsterdam, FC Den Haag, and FC Utrecht. He also coached several teams, including FC Utrecht and the Dutch under-21 team.
Jongbloed will be remembered as one of the greatest goalkeepers in Dutch football history. He was an inspiration to many young players, and his legacy will live on. We offer our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
