The basketball world was abuzz on Saturday, April 4th, when three of the greatest international players of all time were inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Dirk Nowitzki of Germany, Pau Gasol of Spain, and Tony Parker of France were all honored for their incredible contributions to the game of basketball.
Dirk Nowitzki is widely considered to be one of the greatest power forwards in NBA history. He was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in 1998 and went on to become one of the most decorated players in the league. Nowitzki was a 12-time All-Star, a league MVP, and a champion in 2011. He is also the Mavericks’ all-time leading scorer with over 31,000 points.
Pau Gasol is another international star who has had a long and successful career in the NBA. He was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in 2001 and was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies shortly after. Gasol went on to become an All-Star six times and won two championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009 and 2010. He is also the Grizzlies’ all-time leader in points, rebounds, and blocks.
Tony Parker is one of the most decorated international players in NBA history. He was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in 2001 and went on to become a six-time All-Star and a four-time champion with the Spurs. Parker is also the Spurs’ all-time leader in assists and ranks third in points scored.
The induction of Dirk Nowitzki, Pau Gasol, and Tony Parker into the Basketball Hall of Fame is a testament to their incredible accomplishments throughout their careers.
