On Tuesday night, the Philadelphia Phillies made history with their 14th no-hitter in franchise history. Pitcher Michael Lorenzen was the man of the hour, throwing a complete game shutout to secure a 7-0 win over the Washington Nationals.
Lorenzen was dominant from the start, striking out seven batters and allowing just one walk over his nine innings of work. He was able to keep the Nationals off balance all night long, mixing his pitches and keeping them guessing. He also got some help from his defense, as shortstop Didi Gregorius made a few key plays to help preserve the no-hitter.
The Phillies’ offense also played a key role in the win, as they were able to score seven runs off of Nationals starter Patrick Corbin. Rhys Hoskins and Jean Segura both had two hits, while Bryce Harper and J.T. Realmuto each drove in two runs.
The win was a special moment for the Phillies organization, as it was their first no-hitter since Roy Halladay’s perfect game in 2010. It was also a special moment for Lorenzen, who said after the game that it was “a dream come true” to be part of such a historic night.
The Phillies have now won four straight games and are currently in first place in the NL East. With Lorenzen’s no-hitter, they have shown that they have the talent and depth to compete for a playoff spot this season. It will be interesting to see if they can keep up their winning ways and make a run at the postseason.
