Alex Morgan, one of the most recognizable names in women’s soccer, is set to compete in her fourth Women’s World Cup this summer. The 30-year-old forward has been a staple of the US Women’s National Team since 2009, and has been a major contributor to the team’s success.
Morgan is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, a two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup champion, and the first woman to be named U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year three times. She is also the first woman to score a goal in a FIFA Women’s World Cup final, and the first woman to score 20 goals in a single season for the USWNT.
This summer, Morgan will be competing in her fourth Women’s World Cup, and she will be doing so as a mother of one. She and her husband, Servando Carrasco, welcomed their daughter Charlie Elena in May of 2018. Despite being a new mom, Morgan has continued to perform at an elite level on the pitch. She scored 18 goals in 2019, the most by any USWNT player since Abby Wambach in 2013.
Morgan is also an advocate for equal pay for female athletes. She was one of 28 members of the USWNT who filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against U.S. Soccer in March of 2019. The lawsuit seeks equal pay and working conditions for the USWNT compared to the USMNT.
As she prepares to compete in her fourth Women’s World Cup, Morgan is an inspiration to many young female athletes. She has proven that it is possible to be a successful professional athlete and a mother at the same time. Her determination and commitment to excellence on and off the field will continue to serve as an example for generations to come.
