On Wednesday, July 24th, Ryan Feltner of the Colorado Rockies was hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski. The ball hit Feltner in the right side of his head, and he immediately fell to the ground. After several minutes, Feltner was able to walk off the field under his own power, but he was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.
The incident occurred during the bottom of the fourth inning, with Feltner on the mound. He had just thrown a pitch when Yastrzemski hit a line drive that struck him in the head. The ball ricocheted off Feltner and into the outfield, where it was caught by Rockies outfielder Raimel Tapia.
The medical staff immediately ran out to check on Feltner, who was lying on the ground. After several minutes, he was able to stand up and walk off the field with assistance from the medical staff. He was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
The incident was a scary reminder of the dangers of playing baseball, as line drives can travel at speeds of up to 100 mph. It is fortunate that Feltner was able to walk off the field under his own power, as it could have been much worse.
